Scarabée Gaïa Pendant
Blue sapphires, diamonds, opal, white gold
in 1898, René Lalique would depict a beetle with spread wings in an Egyptian brooch. Sarah Bernhardt adopted the beetles as tiny insect pets: she would tie their gold threaded legs and set them on her shoulders like living jewels. Its iridescent reflections made it a choice ornament for both artist and performer.
